How to Safely Store Your Water Care Products

pool chemical storageStorage of your water care products is important for two main reasons:

  • To protect your family from encountering anything harmful
  • To ensure the performance of the products is maintained

Our pool and hot tub treatments are all sold in a concentrated form, making them dangerous for anyone who is not handling them properly. Here is what you need to know to store your water care products as safely as possible:

1. Store Away From Children & Pets

It seems straightforward, but do not keep your water treatment products anywhere that children or pets can access.

If you have a lock protected location, that is ideal because even in the case of spillage, your chemicals remain out of reach. Keep all packages on a stable surface beyond reach of any members of your household that do not know how to handle it properly.

2. Store in a Temperature Controlled Location

Water care products should be stored indoors to prevent freezing, to protect the containers and to maintain the efficacy of the treatment.

Once a product has been exposed to freezing temperatures, Oakville Home Leisure can’t guarantee your water treatment will perform at the levels expected from a product that has been properly stored.

3. Keep Away from Extreme Heat

4. Store Smart

Never store a liquid product on top of a granular product. In the case that the liquid products leaks or spills onto the product below, the resulting gas or vapour will be harmful if you come into contact with it.

If a spill does occur, clean it with extreme caution. Take protective measures like wearing eye goggles and gloves, and be careful not to inhale any fumes.

5. Select Stable Shelving

Oftentimes pool and hot tub chemicals are stored in garages or sheds, and these don’t necessarily have the most reliable shelving.

Wherever you settle on keeping your water care products, ensure you are choosing a stable shelf that has little risk of collapsing. For wall mounted shelving, we suggest you double check your brackets and the weight capacity of the shelf before placing your products there.
