Umbrella Bases

Choosing an umbrella base is made easier by this product description run down. Read on and discover the right base for your umbrella today.

Finding the right umbrella base for the shade you want to create on your deck or patio comes down to considering what kind of base will work best for your application. There are three basic types, get to know the differences and you’ll be on your way to selecting the right one.

Table Bases

Table bases are the style that most people are familiar with. They are designed to work in conjunction with a table that has a hole up the middle which the umbrella pole pokes through. They are an easy to set up option that covers all the guests you have seated at the table.

They differ in weight and are commonly available in the following sizes:

  • 40 pounds
  • 50 pounds
  • 60 pounds
  • 90 pounds
  • 100 pounds
  • 140 pounds

The weight you choose will depend on how much support your umbrella needs. This can come down to the size of the parasol and how windy your area typically is.

There are also 3 different materials you can choose from:

  • Granite
  • Steel
  • Concrete

Your choice comes down to looks, 100 pounds of concrete weighs the same as 100 pounds of granite!

Free-Standing Bases

A free-standing base is used when you do not have a table you wish to use with the umbrella. They can be set up anywhere you want to provide additional shade for your guests. You can typically find them in the following finishes:

  • Aluminum with a concrete filling
  • Galvanized steel that is either round, square or stacked
  • Black powder coated galvanized steel

Cantilever Base

A cantilever base is one which has been designed to eliminate the pole from the middle of the umbrella. It is instead offset so that the umbrella hangs over top of the area it shades while the pole is off to the edge. It works perfectly with chaise lounges or when you want to lay down and relax by the pool without the sun beating down on you all day.
