Aluminum Patio Furniture

Each type of material used to construct outdoor patio furniture has its own inherent strengths and weaknesses. Here is a list of each of the most common types what the do well and what they do not do well.

1. Aluminum

This type of metal resists rusting and fading, especially when it has a powder-coat finish applied. If you are going for a modern metallic look it is also a lighter and lower-maintenance option than steel. The price you pay for these conveniences is just that, price. High end sets can cost on the upwards of $1500.

Steel Patio Furniture

2. Steel

Steel patio furniture is very tough and durable which makes it a long term investment. This toughness comes with the sets being very heavy and difficult to move around. The weather resistance for them can be low. If it is not properly treated it can rust and corrode.

Wicker Patio Furniture - The Pros and Cons of 4 Different Outdoor Patio Furniture Materials

3. Wicker

This durable woven wood or synthetic material is very lightweight. It can be bought as a specifically weather resistant piece of furniture that can be washed off with a hose and a bit of soap. Many of them are not able to fold and will take up a lot of space. The price can also be high for many sets.

Plastic Patio Furniture - The Pros and Cons of 4 Different Outdoor Patio Furniture Materials

4. Plastic

This is often the least expensive of the patio furniture options out there. Its light weight also makes it very portable. Many designs incorporate the option to stack the chairs, and recycled materials are frequently used. The drawback is that this is likely the least durable of patio furniture materials used and can look cheap very quickly.
